In1802,afterdiscoveringthemegaasteroidPallas,HeinrichWilheimOlberspresented

AHoleinSpace:ProblemsoftheNon-FormationPresumption
(1)UnimaginableEnergy

IfweagreethatPhaeton,hadheexistedatall,heldroughlythesamemassasSaturn(95
timesEarth’smass),thenwemustsurelyagreethattheamountofenergyrequiredtoblast
orsmashthisgiantintopieces,wouldbevastbeyondimagination.Butperhapsonly
beyondtheimaginationsoftheunimaginative.
CometsoriginatingbeyondNeptunianorbitandimpactingPhaeton’ssurfacecould

Interestingly,thediscardedtheorythatNibiru,therogueplanetofSumerianmyth,
collidedwithPhaetonmayactuallyholdwater.Twomassivecelestialbodieshurtling
throughspaceoncollisioncourseataminimumcombinedvelocityofover20kilometres
persecond(44,800mph),andpossiblyupto40km/s,wouldclearlyproducecatastrophic
resultsforPhaeton;howeverthecollisionwouldhavetobeperfectandnotmerelya
glancingblow.TheSumerianepicversionofthiscollisionisthatoneofNibiru’smoons
hitPhaeton,splittingtheplanet.
Factorsagainstcollisiontheoryinclude:

(ii)ThismayalsoaccountforthefactthatC-Typeasteroidsdominatetheinnerbelt;a

(iii)Ceresremainingatthe2.80AUsolarorbitmayindicatethatthis‘dwarfplanet’

(iv)AplanetofPhaeton’sestimatedsizewouldhaveheldmultiplemoonsinorbit.In

theplanetarycollisionhypothesis,itstandsthatCeres,Vesta,Pallas,andHygiea,thefour
largestmain-beltasteroids,couldhavebeensuchmoons.OthersizeestimatesputPhaeton

Finally,theideaofJupitertearingPhaetonapartseemsunlikely,fortworeasons:

(ii)TheasteroidbeltorbitstheSunfarclosertoMarsthanJupiter,andisdenseralong

OnJanuary20th,2016,Sciencereported:
[T]oday,twoscientistsannouncedevidencethatabodynearlythesizeofNeptune—butasyetunseen—orbitsthe
